Bangaranga and Dara won Eurovision and that made many Bulgarians cry happy tears, including some of our team members, present company included.
So what do we think of the song? Here is our honest opinion:
First of all, Bangaranga was such a risky and controversial entry.
Yes, the production and the choreography were masterfully executed, and we love mastery.
Yes, it was designed to impact certain audiences on social media, which it did — and we take our hats off to a good marketing concept.
And yes, it was crazy and risky, but also — it almost looked cooked in a lab with the sole purpose of winning Eurovision.
BUT HERE IS THE REAL REASON WHY WE ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT:
This crazy song is much more than a catchy summer tune (for us at least).
We feel it is actually so very culturally accurate. It shows what it means to be Bulgarian today.
A Frankenstein song made up of different parts, where tunes change completely out of whack?
This is what our East-meets-West reality feels like and looks like.
East and West — always clashing and producing friction, raised eyebrows and contradictions... Yes, we may be more traveled than Anthony Bourdain, speak languages, look cool in any high-brow conversation, blah blah…
But you know what? Next thing, something happens … or doesn’t…
And the masks are off!
We want to be rowdy, our Balkan blood boils, and we start some kind of riot, some kind of trouble...
So yes — just like the song. Too mismatched to ever be reconciled.
The other thing is — who can really hold a thought, a tune — something! - in their minds for more than 20 seconds?
Before we scroll down? Before our next search? Before we catch up with the next thing AI does better than us? Effectively, we all have ADHD, and this song catered to us very well.
To cut it short, to us Bangaranga is genius and we love.
and here is the thing - it felt like coming out of the closet in a big way - in front of the whole world and saying:
“Yes, world, I am Bulgarian and I am losing my mind.”

Bangaranga e Dara hanno vinto l’Eurovision, e questo ha fatto versare lacrime di gioia a molti bulgari, inclusi alcuni membri del nostro team — presente compagnia compresa.
Quindi, cosa pensiamo della canzone? Ecco la nostra opinione sincera:
Prima di tutto, Bangaranga era un brano estremamente rischioso e controverso.
Sì, la produzione e la coreografia erano eseguite magistralmente, e noi amiamo la maestria.
Sì, era pensata per colpire un certo tipo di pubblico sui social media, e ci è riuscita — e davanti a un buon concept di marketing ci togliamo il cappello.
E sì, era folle e rischiosa, ma anche — sembrava quasi cucinata in laboratorio con l’unico scopo di vincere l’Eurovision.
MA ECCO IL VERO MOTIVO PER CUI LA AMIAMO ASSOLUTAMENTE:
Questa canzone folle è molto più di un tormentone estivo, almeno per noi. Ci sembra, in realtà, culturalmente molto accurata. Racconta cosa significa essere bulgari oggi.
Una canzone Frankenstein, fatta di parti diverse, in cui le melodie cambiano completamente a caso?
È proprio così che la nostra realtà a metà tra Est e Ovest appare e si sente.
Est e Ovest — sempre in collisione, sempre a generare attrito, sopracciglia alzate e contraddizioni... Sì, magari siamo più viaggiati di Anthony Bourdain, parliamo lingue, facciamo la nostra figura in qualsiasi conversazione intellettuale, bla bla…
Ma sapete cosa? Poi succede qualcosa… o non succede…
E le maschere cadono!
Vogliamo fare casino, il nostro sangue balcanico ribolle, e iniziamo una specie di rivolta, qualche forma di guaio...
Quindi sì — proprio come la canzone. Troppo sconnessa per poter essere davvero riconciliata.
E poi c’è un’altra cosa: chi riesce davvero a tenere in mente un pensiero, una melodia — qualcosa! — per più di 20 secondi?
Prima di scrollare? Prima della prossima ricerca? Prima di aggiornarci sull’ennesima cosa che l’IA sa fare meglio di noi? Di fatto, abbiamo tutti l’ADHD, e questa canzone ci ha serviti benissimo.
Per farla breve, per noi Bangaranga è geniale e la amiamo. E il punto è questo: è stato come fare coming out in grande stile — davanti al mondo intero — e dire:
“Sì, mondo, sono bulgaro e sto perdendo la testa.”
